Building on success
Cambridge Audio began in 1968 when a group of talented, young technology graduates established a high technology R&D and prototyping business in Cambridge, England. To this day they continue to be a leading name in high-end audio equipment with a annual turnover of over £30m.
Their first site was launched in 1999, and their web presence has developed over the years into one of the most sophisticated digital estates we've ever worked on. The core ecommerce platform is interconnected with a myriad of other platforms and back end systems to support all aspects of sales and markets, both B2C and B2B.
Their digital estate has been developed by an in-house team in response to both strong year on year sales growth and the continued transition to a global online business.

Our brief
The Cambridge Audio team first engaged with us to explore staff augmentation. They faced issues with capacity and their ability to deliver against a roadmap of requirements that flexed in size, yet had business-driven deadlines. In addition, they faced technical challenges and were looking for additional expertise in assessment and delivery of key site features.
At the same time, they had a further concern - were they operating a technology stack that was fit for the future? Drupal was at the heart of the estate, powering the public facing site and we were asked to assess the build and technology choice against their plans and projections for the future.
Partnership
With questions about the long-term suitability of their Drupal platform answered, co-working began with an assessment of skills both sides to best understand how we could integrate into their workflow. Two key aspects of this were as follows:
- Cambridge Audio bringing our development team up to speed on what is a highly complex and heavily customised platform.
- Our developers reviewing the platform and benchmarking against best practice, then providing feedback to the CA team on any areas of interest or concern.
From there, the working relationship has developed in three key areas:
- Staff augmentation, allowing the marketing department's growing demands to be met. This includes ensuring that site performance is maintained as complexity is added.
- Delivering technically challenging features, where our large and diverse team of developers are able to collaborate and find best solutions.
- Round the clock support. As the site is now accessed 24/7 from across the globe, we ensure high levels of site availability and immediate intervention if there are issues.
